SCRUTINY OF LOCAL POLICE SERVICES BOARD LONG OVERDUE

Well I find myself choking each time I now hear Waterloo Regional Police Services Board Chair Tom Galloway talk about wanting more women and more diversity on that old boys club. Jim Wideman who resigned opening the door for Rosita Tse is an example of the old boys club. Far too many long time regional councillors, past or present, have taken up space and not much else on that Board. Mr. Galloway is just the opening shot of those who should be either resigning or given the boot. As Chairman he's been in the driver's seat and that Board hasn't been doing a good job. What it has accomplished is an entrenchment and continuance of the status quo and that is exactly what the regional police hierarchy and politicians have wanted including the regional chairman who also is a member of that Board.

Yesterday's Waterloo Region Record carried the following story titled "Regional Councillor calls for more women on police board". I agree with just about everything she (Jane Mitchell) says in that article but I've long had a problem with giving her any credibility. Is she just another Tom Galloway jumping on the current "womens' rights" campaign or is she the real deal? She was formerly a school board trustee for ten years and that was at a time when I was paying close attention to the school board. She did not impress. Hence I'm taking her solid support for more women on the Police Services Board with a grain of salt. Could she be angling for that appointment herself? Regardless of whether she would make a good appointee or not the fact is that she is right in that "It's time for change". Our Police Services Board is a disgrace. How much of that can be attributed to recent appointees is debatable. What isn't debatable is that the membership over decades have not promoted transparency or accountability within the Waterloo Region Police Service on many issues including gender equity.

Then there are the very interesting comments by Karen Scian a former City of Waterloo councillor. She is making veiled references to the old guard of established public figures stepping from one appointment or leadership role to another. She compares them to a bag of milk past its' expiry date. For me it's more about their support of the status quo and avoiding change than it is about their age. It's their politician's desire to talk about issues rather than actually deal with them and possibly offend someone important.

The bottom line is that both the Police Services Board and the Regional Police Service are in desperate need of a house cleaning. Unfortunately any housecleaning is likely to be done by the very same people who put these ones in charge in the first place. That would be our regional politicians. An election is coming. Time for citizens to houseclean the pack of them.

  1. We need a new police chief obviously there not going to admit there crimes nobodies resigned stepped down nobodies been penalized as new law says is new law.seems our politicians need to be looked at even closer for lies as well I had a tree fall on my truck in st Agatha during ice storm about 5 years ago the old guy across the st said the old home owner complained to city about the hollow old tree witch had racoons living it in front his house for decades he complained it was a danger to citizens and Wilmot ignored his complaint then tree falls on my truck righting it off while driving thru st Agatha when I heard there was complaints snd city was liable I was turned down saying nobody ever complained. So yes I don't trust councilors mutch when they cover up a simple;$ 3.000 truck what will they do or say about a larger claim....People say they hate corruption and cover ups I just hate not being told the truth so I'm sure we can find some honest people who art afraid to speak the truth and uphold the truth and the law .We're beyond needing change we need answers like as to why the female officer waiting soon long to come forward to file a law suit was she waiting cause there was only a few alligators and wouldn't have got mutch a settlement either way she endangered public n fellow officers and they all need to be fired both the sex offenders and any one who allowed the sexual assaults to continue from police chief to possible the victims for waiting so long witch endangers other officers as well as citizens congrats for stepping up but also what was you're motive for waiting a decade to step up when clearly there needs to be a inquiry into the matters as well as a rcmp investigation separate from.police and siu

  3. My belief is that these female officers were the major or only breadwinners for their families. They did attempt to stop the harassment via proper complaints procedures within the police department. Unfortunately those channels as well as the police hierarchy were all a facade and essentially useless for female officers.

  4. If a officer commits a criminal offense a officer has the right to make a arrest and charge the officer immediately then strait 2nd go to the chief of police demand a charges be layed Call the rcmp .call human rights.call news get a lawyer and file lawsuit immediately and that's the cheifs failure for allowing sexual offenders to remain on the force I don't disagree with suing but most amount 40.000 each.same as the most a canadian can get through Victoms of crime.for making comments s judge wouldn't award mutch so in some cases be less then 10.000. The amount is rediculas and black male...on behalf lawyers there are citizens who get harrassed whole life by police beat up shot tazed taking to police station raped or as I say date raped by police and get nothing not a cent or have to fight to try get a million some even fight to get the medical bong back in a thong just to get attention.next time a officer commits a criminal offence on a officer the officer should do what's right arrest the pervert cuff him charge the officer if he resists or gets non compliant tazer him if he goes for a gun shoot him same as you do any citizen. police have the right to use deadly force if she feels threatened or her life's in danger or public saftey or the man had s gun is all she'de have to say.works in court when it's a citizen
