"THE $1.27M "BAD APPLE"

The above title is taken from a report written by Kelly Donovan in regards to police claims that there are only a few bad apples within the police service who need to be corrected. Her report advises that through a Freedom of Information request the Waterloo Regional Police have spent $1.27 million on ONE law firm to cover Labour Relations matters between 2009 and 2017. That is an ongoing, awfully large chunk of money to be spending on lawyers. She also includes a graph which indicates that the spending has hugely escalated since 2009 and is now currently in the $225,00 per year range. Ms. Donovan's point is that "Ineffective oversight and poor governance are costing the Ontario taxpayer millions of dollars and ethical integrity.". Keep further in mind that there are about 60 municipal police forces in Ontario. Many such as London, Toronto, Peel and Ottawa police services have long histories of internal complaints and lawsuits regarding discriminatory behaviour and harassment of officers. Exactly how many unnecessary millions of dollars per year are all our combined municipal, provincial and even federal police forces costing Ontario taxpayers? By unnecessary costs I'm referring to costs incurred due to systemic racism, homophobia and harassment? These costs should also bring home to taxpayers the human suffering and accompanying costs to individuals mistreated by the behaviour and poor governance of senior police administrators. Then of course above and beyond reprehensible police behaviour towards their own employees is the no small matter of some, hopefully few, police officers behaviour towards members of the public who are either marginalized or incapable of paying huge sums of money to lawyers to protect their rights. It is less difficult to believe that this occasionally occurs when we learn that the senior officers at the top apparently have had no problem existing with ongoing disgusting behaviour within their ranks.

  1. 127 million for only a few bad apples.that just recent lawyer fees if you include settlements in past snd future lawsuits were in the billions it's costed kitchener tax paxers for the kitchener waterloo regional polices unprofessional behaviour, and total disrespect for human rights. And what's sick is April 6th constable Jeff Hall waz charged with sexual assault and breach of trust.God only knows why the police took 5 months to find yhere fellow police office so they could arrest and charge him a citizen been charged same day or in matter days not months.Thats proof police get special treatment when being charged it be interesting yo see if any officer gets 18 months wiich is average for sexual offence but I doubt it .Doubt any of these officers will get even 30 to 90 days. The scarry thing is these officers are sexual predators running loose in the city and police departments armed and dangerous. But I guess if you're a police officer and a sexual offender or predator you're allowed to run around carrying a gun .Not if I was in charge I tell you there would be zero tolerance for any officer that is a public servant who commits crimes.Charged with a sexual offence FIRED and banned from carrying wepons charged with assault offence aswell. We need a new police chief who will have zero tolerance snd have officers charged right away instead of letting the sexual predators run loose in police stations and city streets.Totally disgusting the amount it's costing tax payers for unprofessional misconduct.

  2. After reading the news and reading several police cheifs have been charged for sexual offences. I'm seeing why there officers get away with sexual assaults on citizens and fellow officers. Not one police cheif has stepped down or been removed from there job last week one police cheif was found innocent. As ussual he remains on the force in charge of his fellow sexual armed predators.Welcome to Canada were police do as they please are above the law don't care about human rights police commit crimes of sexual assaults on citizens and members of there forces ignore human rights witch there supposed to be upholding aswell as the law .police have been charged for helping gangs both street and motocycle gangs.and we just fire them instead of sentencing them to serious jail time. TO SET EXAMPLES.The amount of crimes commited against the public aswell as lawsuits proves we need serious change after all there's many sexual assaults and assault on public that never hit the papers and there internal investigations led to no charges or charges being dropped at this rate no wonder our elderly can't afford to eat ehen cities have to waste billions to settle there stupidity when cities could use these billions improving cities feeding the poor absolutely disgusting and not what we pay taxes for
